Lighthouse Park Wedding Portrait Session (Behind The Scenes) for Yinger Fotokrafie

Lighthouse Park Wedding Portrait Session (Behind The Scenes) for Yinger Fotokrafie

A while ago, I had the opportunity to work with Yinger at Yinger Fotokrafie as a secondary shooter and also a Behind The Scenes photographer. This photoshoot was entirely orchestrated by Yinger but I was able to capture and document some of the going-ons behind the scenes that made the photoshoot amazing for this couple. Huge thank to Yinger Forokrafie for having me on! All of the photographs here (I believe) were shot on beautiful 35mm film, my favorite photographic medium…

A Letter To Brides And Grooms - What Really Matters On Your Wedding Day

A Letter To Brides And Grooms - What Really Matters On Your Wedding Day

A few years ago, I penned a letter to brides and grooms expressing my thoughts on what matters on a wedding day. Having been married for 7 years, photographing dozens and dozens of weddings over the years and having recently become a father, I’ve revised my original letter to reflect some of my most recent experiences. I’d like to share it with you all as a little note to remember what the wedding day is all about.

Yaletown Roundhouse Wedding - Ana and Matt

Yaletown Roundhouse Wedding - Ana and Matt

This wedding involved nerf guns. Yup.

Right after the first look and a few formal photographs, the bride and groom pulled out some nerf guns and started pelting each other and the groomsmen and bridesmaids with soft and harmless foam projectiles (yet another hazard wedding photographers have to watch out for on a wedding day. Hah! I kid!.... It's green goop and shaving cream).
All images taken while on seconding assignment for Jody Wiger Photography.

Hazelmere Golf Course - Keith and Jeanine Get Married

Hazelmere Golf Course - Keith and Jeanine Get Married

That morning, as I woke up, I noticed that the sun was out. This was amazing.  It was November. In Canada... on the Pacific West Coast. Just days prior, when I went to check the wedding site, it was pouring rain. That weather was expected. The sun was not. But there it was, gleaming and shining in all it's glory!

However, it was really cold. Frost was still in the air and as I made my way down to Hazelmere Golf Course, where the wedding was taking place, I could see steam clouds rising from the ground as the sun melted the cold morning dew despite the chill temperatures. Regardless, the sun was great to have that day and made for a great day to an already beautiful wedding for Keith and Jeanine.

Marco and Bianca - Seconding Wedding Assignment

I have a lot of fun when I get a chance to be a second shooter at a wedding. For this wedding, I was privileged to work with Kirill Bordon Photography to create amazing memories for this amazing couple. Kirill and I are both film shooters and both have a great enjoyment for the medium we use. Film is fun and we love the results that we get to give to our clients.

Marriage: What The Wedding Is Really About

I was recently talking with some friends and realized that as (soon-to-be) brides and grooms its so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding and getting all the details right and booking the DJ and finding time for an engagement shoot and making sure you have a venue and ... and... and...

However, the wedding day is just one day. ONE DAY. But... it's also the start of something beautiful: Your marriage to your spouse. Yes, details are important and YES, it's going to be an AWESOME day... but not because it's going to be an amazing celebration but because you finally say "I Do" to that special someone :)

Your wedding day is the start of your unique story. When the food has been eaten, when the music and dancing quiets down, when the rice or flower petals have been thrown, a new life with your spouse truly begins. And that, really, is what matters most about a wedding day.

So if you're in the midst of planning right now, my one advice is to look into the eyes of your husband or wife to be (even if it's over Skype) and tell them how happy you are that you are going to be starting a life together.

Oh yeah, and book that photographer ;)
