What do you get when you create a safari within a farm to incorporate social distancing while allowing for someone to get the farm experience? A SAFARMI!
Born out of the COVID19 Pandemic, this guide is here to serve as information of some places to consider going if you’ve binged all your Netflix, played all your games, baked all that sourdough bread and maybe just want to get out (or find things to do to stay in). As a family man myself and also a photographer who likes to explore, I found it difficult to find things to do to keep myself and my little one busy at home (there’s only so many times you can listen to "Baby Shark") so I thought that as I discover some of these experiences and places and shared them through my photography, it would help you generate some ideas to get out of the house and (following the proper social distancing and health protocols) get some fresh air.

This was a very relaxed session with the picking up of leaves, the running through the grass and the obtaining of ice cream. Jenny did not want posed and cheesy photos of her, Paul and her little one so she talked to me about what I offered. I told her about my documentary (candid) approach and she was game.

2 years ago, I documented Cee when he was just a fresh new baby and Eee was taking down schedules of poops. I recall Cee was only a week or so old and so everything was new for everyone.
(You can see the first session here)
So then it was really cool to be able to come back again a few years later and see how this little boy had grown up. What a difference a year or two makes.

6 months after I documented Dana’s family, I was asked to come back again and take more photographs! This time around, it was getting close to Christmas so I made a point to capture some of the details while documenting the boys running around and having fun and while finding those split-second moments to click the shutter…

“A wedding ceremony is one of the only times in a couples lives where they will have all their favourite people in a single place with a soul purpose. I get to be a part of that purpose, it is a huge privilege and honour to represent them in this way. I love getting to help them craft and create an experience that will live with them forever…”

“I’m not keen on the idea of being asked to whisper into my friend’s ear as part of the photography”.
This was one of the things (paraphrased) that Lydia said to me as we met to talk about their wedding. With this in mind as I parked my car in the parking lot on their wedding day, I approached this wedding as I usually did: authentic and honest moments through a documentary approach. Brian and Lydia loved the photos and I definitely did not do any “whispering into a friend’s ear” suggestions to create them.

It was dark out. I woke up way early in the morning for this wedding and remember sitting in my car and saying a quick prayer before getting my gear on and pulling my stuff out of the car. It was so dark that I had watch my step as I could not see much of the sidewalk except for what was illuminated by the street lights. Despite all this, I had a skip in my step as the excitement of the day was starting to roll in. I was going to be a big part of Andrew and Haley’s day and little did I know that the day was going to be filled with lots of laughs, smiles and some epic dancing at the end.

What an amazing 2019 it has been. At the same time I was learning how to be a Dad (my little one was 3 months old when 2019 started) I was learning how to juggle personal duties with photography work and everything in between. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the work that I did (and I do hope for more in 2020) but 2019 really taught me the importance of time management. Having a kid is an amazing and rewarding experience but it definitely changes your life and your outlook on things… and poop. As such, I didn’t have time to blog this year and that allowed me to have a really good hard look back at the year was 2019 through this post.

It is truly amazing to see the musical talent that exists in the insurance industry. It makes for some very lively nights and a fantastic time for all attending. Getting to be up close to the front and almost feeling the sweat of the musicians drip onto me (depending on how hard they’re swinging their head) is a fantastic feeling…

“Last year, I had the pleasure of helping to celebrate the incredible life of a student who lost his life to Cancer. We gave the family the idea to display artwork on easels, brought in bright balloons, and decided the soundtrack of the day would be from his personal Spotify playlist. My all-time favourite memory is when one of his brothers requested to play some Nicki Minaj after the ceremony was over. These small personalized touches are part of what I love so much…”
