2019 Year In Review - A Lesson In Time Management

What an amazing 2019 it has been. At the same time I was learning how to be a Dad (my little one was 3 months old when 2019 started) I was learning how to juggle personal duties with photography work and everything in between. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the work that I did (and I do hope for more in 2020) but 2019 really taught me the importance of time management. Having a kid is an amazing and rewarding experience but it definitely changes your life and your outlook on things… and poop. As such, I didn’t have time to blog this year and that allowed me to have a really good hard look back at the year was 2019 through this post.

This year showed me how blessed I am to not only have a beautiful baby (as of writing, she’s now a toddler) but also clients who REALLY want me to document their weddings, their families and their hotpot picnic engagement ideas (yes…. for reals). A huge thank you to all of you who believe in me.

Tried to take more selfies this year also as I wanted to show people I look like behind the scenes.

Some major highlights from 2019 include:

  • Started offering #WeddingVendorBTS (Wedding Vendor Behind The Scenes) photography sessions and met some amazing wedding and non-wedding vendors, with more on the way.

  • Started the Long Term Documentary Family Photosessions and have been working with a couple and their baby to create a beautiful documentary look at their baby growing up over a year and a bit.

  • Had a wedding where my wife was a bridesmaid! (Also True Story: I met my wife at a wedding where we were both in the wedding party).

  • Got to celebrate people’s weddings at the Museum of Vancouver, Estate 248 in Langley, Minoru Chapel/Lee Garden Restaurant and also Terminal City Hall. (Blog posts to follow!)

  • Got to work with some amazing second shooters, who also gave me photos of myself that were (finally) not selfies.

  • Featured in a gallery exhibition in Chinatown’s Sun Yat Sen Garden!

  • Had a Pop-Up Shop selling Chinatown prints in Chinatown House in Vancouver.

  • Supported non-profit organizations and charities such as Journey Home, World Vision and Megaphone through the photography business.

Goals for 2020 include:

  • Continuing to document more weddings, more families and more events!

  • EVENTUALLY getting my Chinatown Book 1 Kickstarted and funded and delivered to people.

  • Keep an awareness of mental health. I had a friend this year have a difficult episode with mental health and is still going through it. It made me realize how important it is to have that.

  • Keep an awareness of physical health… so I can be a ninja.

  • Consider a Ninja Photography branding campaign… I kid you not (This was inspired by clients who have actually called me a “photo ninja”… and not just a few but many brides!). More to follow…

  • Create PhotoBooks that provide a visual-pleasing insight into various cities or even our very own Vancouver.

  • Continuing to raise even MORE funds for people in need.

I am not sure what God has in store for 2020 but I pray that He will use my photography and my passion to serve others.

May you turn over a new leaf from 2019 and look forward to an amazing 2020.
