CHINATOWN, VANCOUVER

In 2013, I started a photography project for myself that I thought would last a year and end in a book. Well... a book was created but I couldn't stop the project there; I had to keep going. It's 2017 now and I've become even more involved in the project than I ever thought I would be, having been able to meet people, make friends and become a part of the fabric of Chinatown itself. What started as a "photography practice project" has become a fundamental part of my documentary photography work.

To say that Chinatown Vancouver has changed would be an understatement. What was previously old shops have now become fancy stores and restaurants. Whole buildings have been replaced with condominiums and high-end shops and offices. Chinatown right now stands as a dichotomy of the old and the new. Where it will go from there... I really don't know.
